World EXPO 2020 in Dubai hosted the Ugra Day

The Governor of Ugra Natalia Komarova took part in the Day of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, held in the pavilion of Russia at the site of the world exhibition EXPO 2020, which is being held in Dubai.

"Our region is the leader in oil and gas production in Russia. It is one of the key oil provinces of the world, which provides more than 5 percent of world production. Every second ton of oil produced in the Russian Federation is Ugra oil. In 2020, our oilmen produced over 1.5 billion barrels of oil," the Head of the Region said.

Natalia Komarova noted that Ugra is located in the very center of Russia, integrated into the economies of the European, Asian, Arctic, and Far Eastern parts of the country. The volume of investments in fixed assets by the end of 2020 exceeded 13 billion US dollars, or 1 trillion rubles.

"Our region is a consistent leader in the Russian Federation in terms of development of the information society, including in the use of advanced information technologies and openness to innovation. Every year Ugra becomes a point of attraction for leading IT specialists, experts in the field of big data processing. This industry is among our priorities. Therefore, we invite those interested in developing in this area to our region," Natalia Komarova said.

In addition, the Governor drew the guests' attention to the fact that the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug is a region with a unique natural landscape, rich in natural resources. Ethnographic, gastronomic, industrial, ecological, event-based types of tourism are developed on its territory.

Natalia Komarova also recalled that on December 10, the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug will celebrate the 91st anniversary. Ugra itself is much older – the first mention of the region was recorded 900 years ago in the Novgorod chronicles.

"One of the innovative projects for the region is scientific and practical laboratory to study the genome of residents of the Arctic and subarctic territories, to identify the relationship of genomic disorders with the risk of various diseases through the transition fr om modern medicine to medicine of the future," the Governor continued. "We pay attention to environmental safety, consistently forming a new waste management system, developing a green economy. We are developing in a paradigm of new challenges. ESG principles are becoming important for companies."

Alexey Besprozvannykh, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, added during the Ugra Day that the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug has a high investment potential. The region demonstrates one of the highest results in industrial development.

"In Russia, Ugra ranks second in terms of industrial production. This is not only the heart of our country's oil and gas industry. This is one of the largest industrial regions," Alexey Besprozvannykh said.

He noted that all the necessary tools have been introduced and actively used in the Autonomous Okrug to fully support implementation of the investment project from the start to the successful completion.

According to the Deputy Minister, one of the largest industrial development funds in Russia has been formed in Ugra – about 2.2 billion rubles. This allows us to support small and medium-sized businesses, nurture new successful enterprises.

During the Day of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, a session "Ugra - the heart of the Russian oil and gas Industry: Technological breakthroughs" was held at the site of the EXPO 2020.

Deputy governors, interested authorities, representatives of oil companies, business communities of Russia and the United Arab Emirates took part in the event.

During the thematic sessions, their participants discussed such topics as investment opportunities in the basic sectors of the economy of the Autonomous Okrug in the context of ESG strategies, development of medical tourism and many others.

During the Ugra Day, a meeting of the investment club took place, wh ere special attention was focused on the development of venture mechanisms to support high-tech projects.
