12 november 2020

Department of Public and External Relations of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra informs:

Governor of Ugra Natalia Komarova took part in the meeting of the Governor's club at the margins of the forum 'Strong ideas for the new time', which is being currently held in Moscow.

The theme of the event was drivers of technological development in the regions.

According to Natalia Komarova, mining technologies are comparable to space-based, advanced scientific developments.

'We are genetically inclined to scientific research. In tsarist Russia in the 18th century – early 19th century, the research of Western Siberia and Eastern lands was carried out from our site. We are more than 900 years old,' the Head of the Region recalled.

In this regard, according to the Governor, Ugra residents have obsession for inter-regional communication at the DNA level.

Ugra is actively developing various types of institutions, infrastructure to support research, scientific and technological initiatives. Ugra high-tech Technopark received the status of a regional operator of the Skolkovo Foundation.

The project of the Bioscan company-a resident of the Ugra Technopark-was included in the top 100 best inventions of Russia according to Rospatent for the first half of 2020. Device, based on the company's developments, allows to quickly assess toxicity of liquids, gases, and various media.

'We are launching a center of high biomedical technologies. This is a high-level project. The region has a huge base for genomic research – the genome of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North in Ugra is a unique wealth for humanity,' Natalia Komarova said, 'The center will unite efforts of more than 200 experts in the field of personalized medicine, genetics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, will become a growth point in the field of high molecular genetic research and transfer of biotechnologies to other regions of Russia and the world.

At the same time, Ugra has formed an intellectual platform that will support the process of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It was formed on the basis of Ugra state University in partnership with UNESCO departments. At the end of November, another Boiling Point will start operating at this site.

'Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug is also located on the territory of the Arctic: two municipalities in the region are located in this zone. Ugra, of course, is also the gateway to the Arctic,' Natalia Komarova added, commenting on the initiative to create a network of data processing centers in the Arctic zone. Its main idea is that the Northern climate can significantly reduce the cost of cooling computer equipment. In Ugra, low air temperatures allow to deploy these technologies.

'There are a lot of prospects. There are no barriers to their implementation,' Natalia Komarova concluded.
