Governor of Ugra Natalia Komarova met with a specialist on the economic empowerment of women and partnership with private business of the UN – Women structure, Meral Guzel from New York, on the margins of the Innoprom International Industrial Trade Fair.
During the conversation, the Head of the Region spoke about the project "Eurasian Association of Women-regional leaders". This international platform was created to discuss the role of women in the context of various challenges of our time. The project unites women-regional leaders in the interests of peace and humanitarian cooperation.
"This idea belongs to the Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko. At the Eurasian Women's Forum organized by her in 2018, the participants adopted a declaration on the establishment of the Eurasian Association of Women – regional leaders. We agreed to synchronize our watches regularly. To do this, we have created an Internet platform," Natalia Komarova stated.
The Association is based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, provisions of the Ugra spatial development strategy. In 2018, 88 women leaders from 10 countries and 13 regions of Russia joined the Association. Today, the association consists of 200 women from 22 countries and 15 Russian regions.
"Using the created Internet platform, we actively exchange practices, which is very much in demand today - during the challenges associated with the pandemic. This platform has data on each of the participants of the association, as well as on 120 practices implemented in 22 countries," Natalia Komarova continued.
Currently, work is underway to prepare for the meeting of the international discussion club of the Eurasian Association of Women – regional leaders, which will be held at the site of the Eurasian Women's Forum, scheduled for October 13-15.
Natalia Komarova invited Meral Guzel to participate in the event as a speaker.
Meral Guzel stressed that the Internet platform created on the basis of the Eurasian Association of Women Regional Leaders is an important decision that opens up opportunities for communication and exchange of experience. "I will be happy to contribute to this work. I will do my best to participate in this project, " Meral Guzel said, "Achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals is our common work. We can combine all the links of this goal."
"We are working to ensure that the UN sustainable development goals are implemented without obstacles in all regions of the world, including in our region," Natalia Komarova said.
