The Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra is proud of its unique natural, cultural and historical resources for recreation and tourism sector development. The territory of the Autonomous Okrug has various historical and cultural attractions: museums, theaters, archaeological sites, as well as modern infrastructure for cultural, educational, recreational and active tourism. International events hosted by the Autonomous Okrug - sports competitions, festivals and forums open Ugra to foreign visitors as a wonderful corner of the world.

Khanty-Mansiysk is the center of both event-driven and business tourism. Most of the international and Russian business, research, cultural and sports events take place in the region's capital. These include Russian and World Biathlon Cups, International Debut Film Festival “Spirit of Fire”, International Environmental Action “Save And Preserve”, World Chess Cup and Russia Chess Cup competitions, World Chess Olympics, and the World Congress of the Finno-Ugric Peoples.

The Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra has two state nature reserves: "Ugansky" and "Malaya Sosva", four natural parks, and three federal and four regional wildlife reserves. All of them form a solid basis for ecological tourism development. Dedicated ecological path routes, organization of ecologo-ethnographic expeditions offer good opportunity to learn more about the region's ecosystem and its historical and cultural heritage.

The Autonomous Okrug has 35 museums and their branches, including 6 state museums: State Fine Arts Museum, the G. S. Rayshev's Gallery-Studio, V. A. Igoshev (People’s Artist of the USSR) House Museum, Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas, Museum of Nature and Man, and the Open-Air Ethnographic Museum “Torum Maa”.

Many of the Khanty, the Mansi, and the Nenets still maintain the traditional way of life in Ugra. The ethnographic tours offer an opportunity to see the traditional way of life of the descendants of the ancient Ob Ugrians. Such tours are available in the indigenous villages of the Nizhnevartovsk, the Khanty-Mansiysk, the Surgut, the Berezovo, and the Beloyarski districts.

The northern peoples festivals are also popular among the tourists: Reindeer Herder's Day, the indigenous peoples of the North festival "Crow Day", the Fisherman's day, the Bear Festival, etc.

Active and extreme tourism is gaining popularity in the Okrug: downhill skiing, snowboard, kite surfing. The Autonomous Okrug offers the tourists 7 skiing resorts: two in Khanty-Mansiysk, and one each in Nizhnevartovsk, Surgut, Raduzvnyi, Nyagan and Pyt-Yakh.

During the summer season the tourists may enjoy mountain river rafting.

The gem of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Ugra is the unique beauty of Northern and Polar Ural mountains with the highest peak of the Urals - Mount Narodnaya (1,895 m).

Unique tourist destinations of Ugra include expeditions to the borders of the Autonomous Okrug "Ugra Necklace", "Expedition to the Polar Ural", as well as five new tours involving Mount Narodnaya climbing: on foot, by quad bike, bicycle, boat and catamaran, and by helicopter.

Another tourist attraction of Ugra is the therapeutic tourism. Mineral resources of the region include plenty of balneotherapeutic resources - mineral springs and muds. Several cities of the Okrug offer natural treatment opportunities: "Kedrovy Log" sanatorium in Surgut, city clinic balneary in Kogalym, "Samotlor Neftyanik" sanatorium in Nizhnevartovsk, "Tyumen-Trans Gas" sanatorium in Yugorsk, "Yugorskaya Dolina" in Khanty-Mansiysk and Khanty-Mansiysk city clinic balneary. In addition sapropel muds have been found in 160 lakes of the Autonomous Okrug, the medicinal properties of which are comparable to the muds of the famous Russian resorts.

The tourists are also offered oil tours including visits to oil producing companies' Lukoil, Rosneft and Surgutneftegas sites. The tourists are taught the basics of oil production, offered a"black gold" production demonstration, and are introduced to the history of oil fields of Siberia development. Every tourist takes away a special souvenir - a drop of oil.
